Well hello Randall Children's Hospital, our old friend

*Most* importantly, Miles did well during his MRI and his craniotomy today. They removed a tumor from his left temporal lobe. He's still pretty out but has talked to us a bit and seems like himself. That's really good news!





Here's some more information about Miles' brain stuff.

He participated in a brain development research study, which included a quick brain MRI. The study was just a random opportunity, and Miles wanted to be a part of it.

Then in November, we received a call that there were two abnormalities on the MRI and they recommended we follow up with his pediatrician. To make a long story short, that led to a second quick MRI, confirming a Dandy-Walker variant (basically a part of his brain that is less developed and likely explains some of the motor delays he's had) and what is most likely a benign tumor. That led to a third full MRI, and here we are less than two weeks later, in the hospital.

We're still learning a lot about brain tumors but even benign ones aren't easy to just take out and be done with.

So next steps are another MRI in the morning, recovery, getting pathology results in a week or two, and then figuring out a game plan. Could include many things and the road ahead might be long, but this kid is a trooper.

We really appreciate having such a strong support network. All of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers have helped make this easier.

As always, we are receiving wonderful care at Randall. It's oddly comforting to be at a Children's Hospital we know so well.
